DES MOINES, Iowa — A supervisor arrested after a massive immigration raid at an eastern Iowa kosher slaughterhouse was sentenced Thursday to three years in federal prison for his part in hiring illegal immigrants.

Miracle, a poodle, was rescued from an Iowa puppy mill and sent to Hearts United for Animals based in Auburn, Neb., Sorenson said. The veterinarian who spayed her after her rescue found dead puppies that had been inside her for so long they had hardened.
